~Rain is pourin' down like the
Heavens are hurtin'.
Seems like it's been dark since
The devil knows when.
How do you go on, never knowin'
For certain,
Will the sun ever shine again?~

Dimitri stared out at the dark grey skies as the rain roared down and soaked the land and everything in cold moisture. His beloved (y/n) was gone and he had no idea when he’d get to see her again. How long would he have to wait to see her again?

“I know you miss her big brother” Anya leaned against her brother’s shoulder as they looked out at the dreary storm.

“It’s like she took the sunshine with her” he sighed and leaned against his pitchfork. Anya hugged her brother as a small tear left her eye.

Dimitri’s love, (y/n), had to leave the country to get better. She was ill and the cold weather of the country was affecting her health to a point where she was making no progress towards getting better. Her family took her to a warmer country to heal.

“Hopefully she’ll come back when she’s better” he murmured as Anya nodded.

~Feels like it's been years since
It started to thunder.
Clouds are campin' out in the valley
And glen.
How do you go on, when you can't help
But wonder.
Will the sun ever shine again?~

“I wish the sun would shine again. My sunflowers can’t grow without light” Anya sniffled as she looked down at the muddy soil where her sunflower seeds were buried underneath.

“The animals would enjoy grazing on the grass in the warm sunlight” Dimitri muttered

“I can’t stop praying that she’ll come back” Dimitri whimpered as he sank to his knees with tears running down his cheeks.

“She was the warmth that filled our hearts” Anya sobbed in her brother’s arms. She missed her best friend, he missed his lover.

~What if the rain keeps fallin'?
What if the sky stays gray?
What if the winds keep squallin',
And never go away?~

Months turned into years. The rain would turn into snow in the late seasons, then return to rain again. Dimitri and Anya never forgot about (y/n) but they began to stop expecting her to come back.

The crops and plants drowned from the rain. The animals lost spirit from a lack of warm sunshine. Dimitri and Anya relied on the help of Nikolai in their struggle.

“What if she found someone else in her new country? What is she made new friends and decided to stay? Has she forgotten us? Maybe she doesn’t love us anymo-“ Dimitri was silenced by Anya’s hand swiftly slapping across his cheek.

“Don’t you ever say that Dimitri! (y/n) loves you with all her heart! I know she’s trying her best to come back to us!” Anya yelled

“You can’t know that for certain, sister! A part of you knows I could be right!” Dimitri shouted.

“Stop yelling, both of you!” Nikolai slammed a knife down as its blade stuck into the wood of the table. Anya wiped away the tears from her eyes. Dimitri ran a hand through his tousled blonde hair and looked at his feet.

“We mustn’t give up. We have faced far worse and we persevered” Nikolai murmured

~Maybe soon the storm will be
Tired of blowin'.
Maybe soon it all will be over, amen.
How do you go on, if there's no way
Of knowin'?
Will the sun ever shine?~

“Who knows, maybe this rain and storms will end soon” Nikolai shrugged.

“May the rain end and bring her back to us” Anya prayed and Dimitri nodded and watched the rain as he usually did.

“I bet you (y/n) will look as beautiful as ever when she comes back” Anya giggled as Dimitri smiled and blushed at the cheerful thought. He and his sister kept their small glimmer of hope alive inside their hearts.

“I will bake with her, and listen to her stories, and braid her (h/c) hair!” Anya chirped

“I want to just hold her in my arms and never let her go” Dimitri choked out.

“You might be very soon” Nikolai added as he twiddled his knife between his fingers.

~Wish I could say.
Send me a sign-
One little ray.
Lord, if you're list'nin', how long
Until then?
Will the sun ever shine again?~

“Brother, do you hear that?” Anya froze as Dimitri and Nikolai paused quietly.

The rain had stopped. The thunder ceased its roaring and rumbling. Lightning no longer flashed or flickered amongst the dark clouds anymore.

“The rain has stopped” Nikolai murmured

“Look!” Anya gasped as the three siblings rushed outside. The dark grey clouds began to part and split and patches of golden light and warm sunshine broke through. The clouds rolled quickly away as more and more rays of sun’s light arrived at long last.

“Dimitri!” Dimitri froze and looked around as his siblings ran and danced in the warm light. Was he dreaming? Was it just his mind playing tricks on him?

“Dimitri!” He had to be dreaming. He could’ve sworn he heard (y/n)’s voice calling out to him. Was she the reason the sun came back? Did she banish the rain and clouds?

“Dimitri!” He looked as his eyes widened. There, beyond the hills, a (h/c) haired woman was carrying a suitcase and running towards the house and the siblings.

“Brother, it’s (y/n)! It’s really her! She’s back!” Anya shrieked and ran towards her best friend.

“moya lyubov (my love)!!” Dimitri sprinted as fast as his legs could carry him towards the woman he loved the most in the world. He quickly engulfed her in his arms. She was soaked from the rain, but he couldn’t care less. Dimitri and Anya held (y/n) in their arms and cried out of pure joy for their friend. Their sunshine had finally been returned to them at long last.

“Never go away, never leave us. You are my warmth and light” he murmured as she nodded into his chest and held one another. He swiftly tilted her chin up and passionately kissed her, desperate to feel her smooth and warm lips against his rough cold ones.

“I promise, I’ll never leave again” she smiled as she pressed her forehead against Dimitri’s. He was overjoyed to have his sweet (y/n) back as much as the sunshine.
