Today you made an important decision. You were going to adopt a cat. You had lived alone for as long as you could remember. You finally decided to pick a cat to keep you company and to be a friend to you.
You walked into the shelter and saw all the dogs, puppies, cats and kittens eagerly waiting to be given a second chance and a fresh start. You walked over to the cat section and entered the room. Cats and kittens of all shapes, colors, breeds and sizes were around. You glanced around, trying to find a good feline to take home.
A large fluffy white Persian gazed at you while pestering a Scottish fold who didn't seem interested in you. Two kittens wrestled with each other, both white with fluff around their necks. The energetic one had dark brown fur around his neck like a mane; the other, shyer kitten had soft brown. Both kittens had weird curls atop their heads.
A large fluffy brown cat was perched on a cat tree while he examined the other cats. A black cat was huddled around three kittens. One was white and grey, the other a white female with a flower shaped patch of fur around her ear, the last one was white and brown and had a strange curl on its head. The brown and white kitten kept pouncing on the black cat.
None of these cats seemed to stand out to you. That's when your eyes fell on him.
A little light brown kitten that had dark brown patches on his head and back was alone in the corner. The little male also had a strange curl like the others. Your friend Heracles who worked at the shelter noticed you gazing at the kitten
"So you're interested in that little guy?" he asked
"Yeah, he looks kind of lonely," you nodded
"That little guy's brother was adopted yesterday. He was friends with a bigger Russian blue but he was adopted too. He's been lonely lately, hardly touches his food" Heracles explained.
"I'd like to meet him first if that's ok" you asked. Heracles took the little tom and set him in another room and left you two alone to get to know one another.
"Hi little guy" You crouched down and wiggled your fingers to get his attention. He perked up and slowly trotted over to you. He curiously sniffed your fingers before you gently stroked him. He purred and rubbed his head against your hand.
You gently picked him up and confirmed to Heracles about adopting him.
"What do you want to call him?" Heracles asked as you filled out the paperwork.
"I was thinking Feliciano. It sounds cute for a guy like him. I'll call him Feli for short" you smiled and finished filling out the form. Feliciano meowed and purred, he seemed to like the name too.
You happily took Feliciano home in his little cat carrier. That was the day your loneliness ended and your beautiful friendship begun.
~Le time skiiiiiiiiiiiiip!~
"Feli!!!!" you snapped at the tabby. Feli was caught dipping his paw into a pot of pasta sauce to 'sample' it.
"Bad kitty!" you chided him. His ears folded down and looked ashamed. Your heart melted and you began to feel bad for scolding him.
"I'm sorry Feli. You know I can't stay mad at you forever" You cooed and picked him up. He began purring and rubbing his face against yours.
"Ve-meow!" he meowed and licked your chin. You giggled and set him down as you finished making pasta. Feli watched you and sat on the counter while waiting for you to cook dinner. You always seemed to make too much pasta to eat by yourself. That's when you learned about Feliciano's quirk. He loved pasta. He always finished eating your leftover pasta or scraps. The vet said nothing about it being bad for him so it didn't bother you.
After you and the cute feline finished dinner, Feli decided to venture out the dog door.
Hours seemed to pass as you waited for Feli to come home and lie on your lap whilst you watch TV or read a book.
"Feli!! Here kitty kitty kitty!" you called out as you put on a coat to go search for him. You scanned around the yard and eventually checked the front yard. Where had that little energetic fur-ball go?
"Ve-meow!" you heard Feli meow frantically. You followed his calls until you saw a large scraggly-looking stray biting and scratching at your poor little Feli. Feliciano didn't fight but simply tried to curl into a ball and endure the savage beating.
"Shoo! Leave my Feli alone you brute!" you grabbed a small stone and threw it at the stray. The stray hissed as the stone hit its flank. The cat turned and hissed at you before scampering away.
You gently picked him up and ran home. You placed Feli on the couch and examined his wounds. He had several scratches on his head, a large gash on his side and bite marks on his neck and tail.
"Ve-meow?" Feli meowed weakly and glanced up at you. You stroked his fur gently and carefully to avoid his bandaged wounds.
"I'm sorry Feli. I should've been watching you" you cooed and gently kissed the top of his fluffy head.
"Ve-Meow!" he purred and rubbed against your arm before licking your hand.
"I promise I won't let another cat ever bully you again" you murmured and laid down on the couch with Feli on your stomach. You two fell asleep peacefully together that night.
